I watch most of my TV using a PVR, and I don't usually wait around for
the credits since I'm not really interested in what's coming up next.

But, I was distracted and left a show playing last night that - of
course - squeezed down the credits to show previews for other shows on
the same network.

Just as the credits were squeezed to the bottom, a quick 5-second spot
announced "The following preview is brought to you by...", which was
proceeded by a very quick plug for a local furniture company. Then
sponsor's logo was squeezed onto the right side of the screen for the
duration of the preview!

Is this common, or something new they've started doing?

To add to the insanity, this was all squeezed into a 4x3 box on my 16x9
screen for a channel that is broadcasting in HD.

And for full disclosure, this was at the end of My Name is Earl on E!
Canada - a channel that may or may not exist in a few months (weeks?)
due to the debt problems related to Canwest. So I'm not surprised
they're trying to sell as much ad space as possible.
