Stage veterans Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth will get to show off
their ghoulish sides next year, having signed on to star in the
Broadway musical adaptation of The Addams Family.

Producers announced on Monday that the Tony Award-winning duo will
tackle the roles of married couple Gomez and Morticia Addams in the
musical, slated to debut in New York in spring 2010 following a
pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago.

Rounding out the cast portraying the Addams misfits are Kevin
Chamberlin (Uncle Fester), Jackie Hoffman (Grandmama), Zachary James
(Lurch), Krysta Rodriguez (Wednesday) and Adam Riegler (Pugsley).

The project was first announced in 2007, with Phelim McDermott and
Julian Crouch — the duo behind the off-Broadway musical hit
Shockheaded Peter — enlisted to direct and design the musical.

The production will feature music and lyrics by composer Andrew Lippa,
while a trio of Jersey Boys alumni have also signed on: writers
Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, as well as Toronto-raised
choreographer Sergio Trujillo.

Previews for The Addams Family will begin at a yet-to-be-determined
Nederlander theatre on March 4, with opening night set for April 8.

Created by Charles Addams as a series of cartoons published in The New
Yorker in the 1930s, The Addams Family has been adapted over the years
into both animated and live action TV series as well as several films.
