>From almost the beginning, the commercial break bumper on the Cronkite
news had a globe in the background (after Apollo landed on the moon,
it was the photo of Earth taken by Armstrong and Aldrin). In the 70s,
they introduced the animated titles of the globe spinning over the
Teletypes and then pulling back to clearly reveal Walter at his desk
piling his copy up while the announcer said, "From our newsroom in New
York, 'The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite'..." The animation
was used again at the end while Walter was usually leaning back in his
chair smoking his pipe.
