1. Timing is everything. Just after Sixty Minutes aired a (repeat) segment last night on the ongoing and worsening violence in Mexico, CBS aired a commercial by the Mexican tourism industry touting the safety of Mexico (because of its handling of H1N1 outbreak).
2. We have short memories. Al Roker is on the charity circuit once again for The Today Show. Today he visited a childrens' charity in Pacific Palisades that's run by Tai Collins. There was a lot of footage of a tearful and grateful Ms. Collins, who was identified as a former beauty queen. The last time I remembered seeing Ms. Collins on my TV screen was when she was involved in a sex scandal that ended the political career of former Virginia Senator Chuck Robb. Like Donna Rice, she's now devoting her life to good deeds. (I think there's a novel or movie in there somehow: the secret lives of ex-beauty queens -- who have affairs with married politicians -- who then rehabilitate themselves by becoming involved in charitable causes.) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
