Melissa,

Yes, your friends building is one of the problems we face. We call
these drop-point addresses. They make up about 2-3% of the housing
units nationwide, but probably a greater percent in NYC. Technically,
we should randomly select one of the 53 units.

Thanks for forwarding.

It was good to see you too. I ran into Ray a few minutes after I saw
you. Give my best to everyone else.

Hi,

Nice running into you at the Joint Statistical Meetings.

A member of my TV Group, who lives in New York City, posted the
following message.

Thought you might be interested.

I live in an apartment building containing 53 units and more than 100
people.

Left on the "not mine" shelf near the mailboxes, a letter from Arbitron
addressed to:
Radio Listener/TV Viewer
[my street address, no apartment number]

>Dear Radio Listener/TV Viewer,
>Recently, we called your household to invite you to take part in an
important study about radio and television. We know there are many
demands on your time. That's why we designed this study to be quick and
easy.

>You play an important part in this research. Your household is one of
>the few in your area selected to take part in this study. [snip]

There's a phone number, and an enticement of "a small cash gift just for
answering a few questions!" They also mention that "we respect your
privacy." Clearly, since they don't even want the Post Office to know
who they're dealing with.

So, what do you think? Should I call? And should I share the number with
y'all?
jd
