YouTube to host Time Warner video content

Google-owned YouTube has announced a deal with Time Warner to host an
array of the company's movie and television clips.

YouTube will be able to show short videos from Time Warner's
television properties, which include CNN, the Cartoon Network, Turner
Broadcasting System and HBO, as well as short movie clips from Warner
Bros.

Television shows under Time Warner's banner include Gossip Girl, True
Blood and Entourage.

HBO has been operating its own branded channel on YouTube since last
year. Other Time Warner properties will now be free to develop their
own similar channels.

The clips will include advertising, which will be sold by Warner Bros.
Entertainment and TBS, and revenue will be shared with YouTube.
YouTube said this ad model differs from competitors in online video
and was the key factor in getting Time Warner to agree to a deal.

"Our agreement with YouTube helps us expand the amount of our
promotional content, animation and news that we already make available
online," said Time Warner chairman and chief executive officer Jeff
Bewkes in a release. "Working with YouTube, we expect to improve our
ability to monetize this short-form content through new and creative
advertising initiatives."

The content will, for now, only be viewable in the United States. A
spokesman for YouTube said content partners are responsible for
deciding where their video can be seen and Time Warner has opted to
restrict it for the time being.
