You know why I'm not OK with Dave yet? Because he had a chance to speak up, not to be political, but to emphatically state that he would not allow anyone from any social group to bully him. Sure, now that Palin is less in favor and more people are mocking her stupidity, he's back making jokes about her. The time to stand up was earlier, when such statements would have carried more weight. I've had trouble doing my Vintage VHS series on the website because Letterman is so pervasive in what I watched 20 years ago. Clips of he and Johnny Carson are on damn near every tape I recorded. I don't want my reviews of Letterman's earlier work to be dragged down by my present day disappointment in him. It is like watching the episode of SNL guest hosted by OJ Simpson -- you can't help but think about what the future had in store for the guy. And while Letterman is far from a murderer, he bent over and kissed the collective backsides of a fringe minority at a time when doing otherwise might have made an impact. Instead, he helped to legitimize them. And now they're in a position to have their extremist voices heard during the health care debate, which has resulted in the most divisive and potentially hostile political environment of the last several decades. That is a hard thing to overlook. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
