I swear, that is the title it is going by -- both the name and the abbreviated name are contained in the title (it is even listed as such on IMDB). And Ashton Kutcher is listed as one of the Exceutive Producers. I checked out the pilot episode since it was a free download on iTunes. I expected the worst.
I did not dislike it. Yes, it reeks of the same rich, snobishness of "Gossip Girl" and "90210" (or any CW drama), but it actually does have a few likable characters. Despite its high-class pretentiousness, the show has a certain charm to it, and charm is hard to find in prime time. Whoever found Sara Paxton should win an award for casting. She has a subtle confidence you don't see much in relatively young actresses. Thumbs up to Christian Duguay for directing a pilot with closeups. Lately, it seems directors like to use expansive wide shots or jittery steadycam moves, and, while those elements were there in the pilot episode, there were also some soft, lingering shots on hands, shoulders, and eyes (Paxton's eyes are the piercing kind) that draw a viewer in as opposed to shoving them from side to side (and ultimately away). That said, I probably won't watch the show, and it probably won't last. Because the people who generally watch shows on the CW aren't looking for shows with charm, and I don't need to get hooked on a bunch of characters that won't ever be fully developed. But watch for Sara Paxton -- worth a look-see. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
