Boston pubcasting giant WGBH buys commercial station WCRB for $14M
(according to radio-info.com and radio blogger Scott Fybush), only a
few months after The New York Times dealt with Univision and WNYC to
transfer WQXR to WNYC (and switch QXR's frequency to the weaker 105.9,
as Univision's Spanish WCAA "La Kalle" moves to QXR's old 96.3 slot):

It's unclear whether CRB will be commercial or become a non-com like
QXR will become on Oct. 8, when the frequency flip and WNYC takeover
takes place, or if it will continue programming mostly only the Top
500 Most Loved Classical Favorites like most classical stations these
days (their PD started the strategy at the long-defunct NY commercial
station WNCN). It is safe to say that GBH's daytime programming will
become all-news-talk, putting them against competing all-NPR-news-talk
station WBUR (home of Click and Clack, Robin Young and Tom Ashbrook)--
GBH will continue to play jazz at night and above-92 commercial
station that acts like a college station WHRB (owned by an NFP
affiliated with Harvard) plays a lot of classical music.

And three of the biggest radio deals of the year all involve public
radio stations (KERA in Dallas is buying religious non-com KVTT for
$18M to convert it in November to AAA KKXT).
