The special effects were impressive, in particular the opening sequence.

The problem with this series is that once you've seen what can be done
in this genre (i.e.: "Rescue Me"), the bar is set really high. So,
though the series is probably better conceived than "Emergency!"
(despite the lack of someone named Mantooth), it falls short in a lot
of areas, most notably its use of stereotypes instead of actual
characters.
