There's no denying Keith enjoys the sound of his own voice. It is a prerequisite for the job. But this review is a simplistic look at the myriad of point he was trying to make. I agree the final segment, the call to action, resonated strongest, and it probably could have held its own as a stand-alone "Special Comment." But Keith didn't experience a "sudden sense of wonder at a broken system." Last night, his continuing outrage was focused to a sharp point. And, unlike Mr. Madden, who seemed to consider it a weak objective, I applaud Keith for calling out both Republicans and Democrats. I can be critical of Obama (believe me), but not since Clinton's first year in office (around 15 years ago) have we had a serious debate on health care reform. Obama deserves all the credit for that. But instead of taking the ball and running with it, the Democrats (including Obama), have capitulated. Aside from one junior senator who bloviated more than he should have, the Democrats have weakly limped through this process, signaling defeat before the race has been run. Keith had every right to point that out, because part of the problem with health care is the lack of true advocates for reform within the government. The analogy utilizing the words, actions, and ultimate defeat of Churchill was outstanding, again despite the protestations of Mr. Madden. It was an analogy Obama, in particular, should pay close attention to. Again, I applaud Obama getting the ball rolling, but subsequently (and repeatedly) dropping the ball is akin to Churchill abandoning the concept of providing for his own people. Tough for the public to have hope if the public is dead. -- Kevin M. (RPCV)
