I am not a big fan of Joe Buck, Fox's MLB play by play man. I did not
watch very much of Fox's Games of the Week this season (and even if I
did, we often seem to get the "B" announcers out here on the west
coast). I have noticed that I hate him less on Sunday football with
Troy Aikman than I used to (and I think Aikman is getting to be pretty
good), and in the post season I have noticed that Buck is also less
irritating than he used to be.

I have not seen it recorded here, so, for the record, we should have
what would be a great moment for any TV sports announcer memorialized
for the record on this list (this is from the LA TImes):

********
Buck: "If you read the body language of Alex Rodriguez, that is an
extremely confident hitter who seems to be picking up the ball really
well as he hits one into left, back at the wall . . . Rodriguez goes
deep and it's 5-0 New York." On the word "really," Rodriguez clubbed
the ball. It was as if he and Buck had rehearsed the entire moment.
********

It really was pretty remarkable. He actually began by saying something
like "you can always get in trouble trying to read body language, but
if you read the body language of Alex..." I have to admit that even
with the caveat, I was half way through rolling my eyes a little at
what had turned into gushing over A-Rod, when *SMACK!* he hits a
towering home run validating exactly what Buck was saying. It was a
nice moment for Buck - nice enough that I won't spoil it (much) by
wondering how many times this year he has said something like that
before a player batter or pitched only to have the player flop.
