It has been reported several days ago that The Washington Post will shutter
the last of its national bureaus -- NYC, Chicago and LA -- at year's end.
Marcus Brauchli concedes, "We are not a national news organization of record
serving a general audience. Nor are we a wire service or cable channel." To
which WaPo will focus on its home beat, politics, where it faces fierce
competition by the upstart Politico, and the freebee tabloid Examiner. Of
the six reporters affected is television and entertainment columnist Lisa de
Moraes who was based out of LA. The six have all been offered jobs back in
DC. Three assistants will be let go.
