Several weasels in the article, claiming records for the series, USA
(I assume some edition of "WWE Raw" or U.S. Open tennis held the
previous record) and a scripted basic cable drama series ("The Closer"
held the previous record, "The Sopranos" finale is the overall highest-
rated scripted drama series episode on cable).
When it comes to highest cable audiences, I would guess that 'MNF" on
ESPN is at the top (that consistently gets OTA network-sized audiences
every week). The premiere airing of "High School Musical 2" on Disney
Channel in 2006 pulled over 17M viewers--and a rerun--yes, a rerun--of
"Hannah Montana" after that show still kept about 14M viewers, making
that, I believe, the highest-rated sitcom episode on cable, unless the
"SATC" finale was bigger.
