Probably because folks are still stuck on the desiccated notion that in late night, if you're not 11:35, you're crap. Followed by the notion that 12:35 hosts are in training for 11:35. That second notion has all of two data points to bear it out.
First things first, though. CBS is finishing negotiations with Craig for his next contract. I don't expect any special provisions in there about promises for the Late Show or buyouts if he doesn't get 11:35 at some point in the future. If there are, then we can make some claim that CFerg is looking to work earlier, with lighting and a band. Kilby walked away, and it's not crazy to think at one point Ferguson could too. Since CFerg has other talents (2 books and who knows how many film scripts), he can do something else. David ________________________________ From: Jon Delfin <[email protected]> Not to point a finger, but I'm just reading Ken Tucker over at EW on Leno and O'Brien and all that. He's one of many people who mention Craig Ferguson as being heir apparent to Letterman's slot. I'm a huge CF fan, but I can't imagine for a moment that his show and his sensibility would work at 11:30. (Much the same as I never believed Conan could assimilate into the mainstreamness of The Tonight Show.) So what's the assumption here? Ferguson will someday neuter himself and take over The Late Show? Why would anyone think this can or should happen? Jon
