About 10 years ago. > Interesting thought. Any TW cable customers out there who are using > an > actual TiVo? Is it a hassle? I've had various TiVo models on Time Warner for the past 10 years. I've had the displeasure of using their DVR several times during that period on other TVs in my house and have absolutely no understanding of why people subject themselves to that torture. I get that it's cheaper, but the functionality is so limited, unstable, and difficult that, for me at least, the extra cost is well worth it. I will admit that TW has made it more of a hassle to use a TiVo (and other non-cableco DVRs) by using Switched Digital Video (SDV) to tune various channels which requires a) their DVR/cablebox, or b) a (free) dongle available from the cableco that plugs into the TiVo. In most peoples' experiences, including mine, that dongle can be pretty flakey and TW has little interest or incentive in making that a better experience. It can be a pain at times, but still, even with the minor hassle, which only affects certain channels depending on what market you're in, a TiVo is far better than TW's DVR offering.
