Along the same lines, the blog of the right-wing Media Research Center (I refuse to link to them, look it up yourself) is hounding on PBS right now because one of their staffers went to Chik-Fil-A with his kids and discovered that their current kids meal includes "Between the Lions" toys. The blogger is now calling PBS head Paula Karger a hypocrite because she said at press tour that PBS doesn't develop children's shows to sell toys. If I were Karger, I would answer that the toys come *after* the show becomes popular and a possible revenue strand and that the primary means is still to offer programming to kids that both entertains and educates. Hasn't the schmuck from the MRC noticed that "Sesame Street" has been licensing items for over 35 years? Of course, these are the same people who don't want the government funding public TV but will start criticizing when public TV tries to find other revenue sources than pledge drives and government support. Pot, kettle.
