While I agree it's a stupid idea and a stupid example, I'll note that as much as I love TBBT, there are times in which I dislike the use of the studio audience, especially when its used as a laugh-cue (on a sight gag, for instance). The best opposite-example, if you care to look it up, is on The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis, where the view sees Sheldon a full second before the studio audience does.
