6:07 (all times PST) I don't understand why it is considered respectful to applaud merely because someone enters a room (whether on a talk show or in the Chamber). If someone says something you agree with, great, but to clap merely because a person can walk seems like pandering, particularly when half of the people clapping will be trash talking the man two hours from now (or trash Tweeting the man two minutes from now).
6:10 Applause dies down so the Speaker can officially announce the President has arrived, which leads to another two minutes of applause. Why did she have to announce him? Were there people in the room who hadn't noticed he was there yet? 6:14 Republicans in the dial group did not like the mere mention of the word "recession." Democrat line is at the very top... they have all consumed the Kool-Aid. 6:16 The independents liked hearing that America is tired of the partisanship... Dem. line is still at maximum. 6:23 I'm sick of any politician talking about how many more jobs we have. More than 12% unemployment in California alone... they should probably shut the hell up about new jobs until we're close to 2% or so. 6:25 Obama gets "real." He feels for the unemployed. Jobs must be the #1 focus, but we're installing machines to search people at airports. Why not hire people to conduct the searches? 6:28 President wants to give away more money. That'll fix things. 6:31 Democratic dials finally dropped a few percent. Maybe they think it is like a volume knob and have turned the dials down turning a quiet part of Obama's speech. Oh, they just went back up again. 6:33 Why can't we accept 2nd place for America? For that matter, why not 12th place? Where is it written that we have to be 1st? And by what criteria are we considered 1st? Do I get more money if I work in the 1st place country than I would in the 2nd place country? 6:36 Everyone seems to like offshore drilling opportunities. Not nearly as positive a response to cheaper solar cells. 6:38 Obama mentioned the nation that leads the way in clean energy will be the nation that leads the global economy. Guess that means Brazil is the number one nation in the world. Wonder what form of currency they use? 6:40 Obama listed Panama and Columbia as key trading partners. Sounds like somebody is considering legalizing pot. 6:43 Talked about forgiving debt for college graduates. He must have forgotten that we only bail out corporations. 6:48 He vowed not to "walk away." Of course not, he has a car and driver, to say nothing of Air Force One. 6:52 Re: Repaying the debt. Why? Will China come knocking on our door with a couple of leg-breakers, threatening to rap us on the kneecaps if we don't pay what we owe? I say we as a nation say "screw the debt" and move on with our lives. People in the chamber laughed. I laughed. Nobody in the chamber even knows what common sense is. 7:01 He was just asking both sides to be nicer to each other. He knows how useless meetings are in regards to decision making, right? 7:06 How did Al Franken end up wedged in a seat next to all the military personnel? 7:12 Wow... The mention of American values always makes me smile. America once valued both women and African-Americans as less than what they actually are. America still values the relationship of homosexuals as less than what they actually are. I'm so sick of the lack of values in this country that I could vomit. If a politician uses the world "value," they should get a strong electrical current fed through their body. Not strong enough to kill them, just strong enough to discourage them from using a word they aren't qualified to use. 7:19 "The small business owner" who wrote a letter.
