Some years ago I swore off of either CNN or The Today Show for my background morning television. I switched over to sports programming, and for a couple of years I was really into "Mike and Mike in the Morning" on the Deuce. But at some point their charm began to wear thin on me - I think they actually changed and began to smoke too much of their own shit. At some point last Fall I got hip to the fact that DirecTV was broadcasting Dan Patrick's radio show on the 101, and started checking it out, and I became hooked. This week they have been on the beach in Miami for the Super Bowl, and it has been really good.
The Dan Patrick Show is so good that it makes me wonder how long it can be contained to DirecTV (of course, it can't be stopped). What are the ratings for a show like this on the 101? Can DirecTV pay him enough to keep the show there over the long haul? Would Showtime or HBO ever be interested in doing a show like this (I think it is 2 hours in the morning - hard to tell because DirecTV shows it on a loop for about 6 hours in the morning, and again at night). With ESPN off the table, what other cable home is even plausible for a show like this. I like Radio on the TV (I used to watch a bit of Al and Rachel on Sundance or something), though my wife stopped me from watching Stern and I never cared much for Imus. -- TV or Not TV ....
