As it happens, I live within walking distance of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix that takes place every summer. If I have nothing better to do, I'll wander down and watch. It's some nice old cars racing genteelly. Some years back, I was watching the practice/time trials on Saturday when one car had a problem and hit some hay bales. It was nothing major, but I found that my heart was racing. So I conclude that rubbernecking is a natural response, perhaps a primal reaction to seeing another member of the tribe in danger. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
