OK. I watched "Parenthood." Not a bad pilot, but not in any way related to the movie, which makes me ask again why they felt the need to pay royalties for the use of a title and some character names.
My chief criticism of the show is its watered down depiction of families, but that could just be my own personal bias getting in the way of a story. I'm going to rewatch the original film in the next day or two and then work up some sort of comparison, but I seem to recall the overall message of the film being that dysfunction exists and it sucks but tough doo-doo. The overall message of the pilot of the series is that dysfunction occurs at semi-regular intervals, but in between those intervals there is a fully functional family unit standing by to provide comfort and support. As a one hour installment, it did a decent enough job of introducing the characters, but I'm not certain I'd enjoy the sanitized look at family life. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV ....
