The Onion gets its own TV series http://www.cbc.ca/arts/tv/story/2010/03/23/theonion-ifce-series.html
The Onion, a satirical news website and organization, is getting its own TV series from the Independent Film Channel (IFC). In its annual announcement of new shows, the IFC said it has ordered 10 episodes of Onion News Network, which is set to debut in 2011. "It just seems to us, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC are already doing such great comedy out there, without a whole lot of competition," Will Graham, executive producer of Onion News Network, told The New York Times. "We thought it was about time that someone really gave them a run for their money." Graham didn't go into much detail about the 30-minute episodes, but it's likely to have the same deadpan humour exhibited in The Onion's internet stories and videos. Executives at IFC, which first began as a channel for showcasing independent films, say they wanted to keep stretching the channel's boundaries. Jennifer Caserta, executive vice-president of IFC, said her audience, which is 70 per cent male, "crave the kinds of unconventional stories, characters, talent, execution and, above all, authenticity, we provide." Other notable acquisitions include the series The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, starring David Cross and Toronto's Will Arnett, who are starring in their first project together since Arrested Development. IFC also brought on the eight-episode Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, a series that first aired on CBC in January. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
