For over 40 years, morning listeners to Houston's KILT heard two guys
who called themselves "Hudson and Harrigan," a comedy team of the old
school that built their morning show around rapidfire sketches,
routines and characters instead of the gaggle of phony-laughing
syncophants, "wacky" stunts involving interns and endless discussion
of reality comps that has dominated morning drive radio ever since
Howard Stern, Steve Dahl and Scott Shannon changed the mold in the
80s. There never was really anyone named Hudson and Harrigan--KILT
founder (and legendary radio innovator) Gordon McLendon created the
names, the station owned them and several men took on the roles as the
station went from AM to FM, from a Top 40 format to country and
McLendon retired from broadcasting and sold the station (it's now
owned by CBS). Until yesterday, when the holders of the "Hudson and
Harrigan" title since 1982 were fired by CBS in what seems like a cost-
cutting move (not to mention the fact that the new "personal people
meters" Arbitron uses to collect ratings data seem to be unfriendly to
personality radio):

There is no doubt that the Hudson and Harrigan act was probably
cornball and silly (it ended on a country station, for goodness
sakes!). But for so many in Houston, it was part of their mornings
for years. If it was time to move in, it would be better to have to
the two current guys end it on their own terms and walk out high
rather than get canned and replaced by another puke voice and giggling
female sidekick/"newscaster"/traffic reporter chatting about who got
cut from "Dancing With the Stars" last night.
