No damage to my apartment. A water main burst about two miles from where I live, but around here, they burst if you sneeze too loud. I was in Orange County at the time for Easter, so I didn't feel the full effect of the quake, but even up there I can say it was the longest sustained rumbling quake I've ever experienced. As my brother said, it was disorienting and threw off his equilibrium (not my brother who posts to this message board, but my other brother, who still believes the internet is a fad that will pass). I also got to experience the joy that is "earthquake coverage" on television. On Easter Sunday, no less, when stations run with a skeleton crew of mostly inexperienced personnel. KCBS used their sports team to cover the quake, though eventually their weatherman showed up to add to the fluff. KNBC just loved showing looped video of cheesy home movies shot of the earthquake (30 seconds of water blobbing out of a swimming pool, followed by 30 seconds of a swinging chandelier inside somebody's house). Both stations took calls from people in Mexicali and San Diego, followed by the inevitable press conference at Cal Tech. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
