I agree in part, except that I would cite this as yet another example where Comedy Central feels justified offending (or potentially offending, since for all we know the cartoon will be filled with ethics and morality) one group of believers while censoring material that may be offensive to others. Taking another swipe at Jesus Christ at this point feels like a way to get some shameless promotion for the network -- "Ooo, we make fun of Jesus; we're cool, antiestablishment rebels!"
