Not so fast. They now link to tweet by Sleter:

McCoy's politics, such as they are, have been pragmatic liberal. He has
never been a supporter of the death penalty, but felt it was his duty when
made the law of the State. But he usually does not let his politics - and
sometimes his principles - get in the way of a conviction.
