And since the only thing I've heard about "The Defenders" are the kneejerk

Dave has been having fun with "The Defenders" lately, and he seems to be
assuming it is continuous with the old show - which I remember as one of my
mother's favorites (with a distinctive opening, which can be see here

Wiki says 'tis not:
Defenders is an upcoming American Sericomedic legal drama which was ordered
to series by CBS for September 2010. Despite the show's title, this is not a
remake of the 1961-1965 series that also ran on CBS and this version will
have a sericomic feel to it. The series, set in Las Vegas, Nevada, involves
a pair of defense attorneys who go all out to help their clients, while
keeping their personal lives in order.
