Sitting in the laundromat this afternoon, I had to endure nearly two excrutiating hours of local news. Whoever the chatty-cathies are on KNSD who were bubbling around the anchor desk (often, one of the two insisted on standing, I assume she had a hemorrhoid), one of them tossed to their weatherman, and up popped Fritz Coleman delivering his usual might-hearted weather report, only instead of mentioning LA and OC (don't call it that) locales like Ventura or Oxnard, he was talking about Escondido and Mira Mesa. It was strange. I hope he is as wrong about the weather in San Diego as he is in LA, because he's predicting light drizzle on Saturday morning, and I'm planning a yard sale.
I know the small markets are combining news divisions, and I admit I try to avoid watching any local news anywhere, but the sharing of staff for two major market affiliates is a bad indicator of the state of local journalism. For the record, the inclusion of special segments devoted to NBC San Diego's Twitter feed and Facebook profile has not improved the quality of local news down here. But it was nice to see Fritz again. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People! You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TV or Not TV" group.
