Updating: I've found the causes of the picture issues, and neither is related to the strength of the signal.
My next-younger brother (you're the elder of the pair here, right, Jeff?) has been bunking in the attic at the family house lately after breaking up with someone, and at least one of the AC-powered items he's plugged into the wall is a pedestal fan without a polarized plug. (When he goes on weekend trips, everything is turned off, so...) Meanwhile, the input cable connection on the big-TV VCR was recently discovered by moi to be a little flaky... prolly from repeated assaults by Dad J upon seeing a less-than-desirable picture from a recorded-elsewhere tape. -- BOB -- TV or Not TV ....
