I don't think it is close to unwatchable, but it is not the kind of film you
stick into the DVD player for a relaxing Saturday night (unless you are also
getting stoned). It is not nearly as good as many of the films it helped
open the door for in the years to follow. I was a little kid when it came
out and could not make much of it, but have seen it 3 or 4 times in the
years since and there are things to appreciate in it. It is one of those
things that was not nearly as good as the cool people who hyped it
originally said it was, but is also not nearly as bad as the cool people who
have been bashing it in the backlash say it is now.
