What a weird coincidence, the same thing happened to me. Or at least it felt
like it when my family moved a young me to the inner-city Detroit in the
late 1980s. They'll be lucky if that reboot lasts as long as my gritty-urban
reboot did (about two years).

Reaction has been rather harsh to the redesign, even among the female
fans<http://www.salon.com/life/broadsheet/2010/06/30/wonder_woman_wardrobe_fail/index.html>.
(Lynda Carter being one of the notable
exceptions<http://abcnews.go.com/WN/womans-wardrobe-lower-heels-biker-jacket-sexy/story?id=11046362>--
on the flip side, I think they actually had to rush Nikki
Finke<http://www.deadline.com/2010/06/dc-comics-decides-to-ruin-wonder-woman/>to
the hospital after she saw it.)

To be fair, my fear is that they're going to go again down the road of the
gritty 90s anti-hero type story telling, which seems to have gotten a second
leash on life thanks to Nolan's "Dark Knight Saga" (as fans are calling it
now) and BSG, even though it didn't work quite as well for most other
properties that went darker and edgier.

Curiously, TVWeek
speculates<http://www.tvweek.com/blogs/tvbizwire/2010/06/wonder-woman-gets-updated-supe.php>that
the reboot was done with TV or film in mind. The summary does read
like
a log line for a TV treatment. And lets admit, only one person managed to
pull off that original costume, the aforementioned Lynda Carter.)

(Aside, in the comments to this post on
Jezebel<http://jezebel.com/5576476/wonder-woman-gets-rad-redesign>,
I found the results of an old
contest<http://www.tencentticker.com/projectrooftop/2007/11/26/wonder-woman-wardrobe-war-winners/>to
redesign WW's uniform.)
