The stories of O'Brien's ego used to run like wildfire through the halls of NBC Burbank, but when I was an NBC Page, he was someone I could always count on to entertain the tourists if he happened to be in the halls. He'd poke fun at my polyester suit or my lack of hair and I'd poke fun at the fact he paid the shoe shine guy to hang his picture alongside pictures of more famous people on a makeshift hall of fame. I recall Giselle Fernandez, his then co-host of "Access Hollywood" was also fun (and extremely flirtatious). There was one tour when Fernandez and I were chatting it up and O'Brien came out, pretending to be mad that I was paying attention to her and not him. They got into a mock fight and I don't think the tourists knew quite what to make of it. Fernandez's eventual replacement, Nancy O'Dell, was a knockout to be sure, but all the personal charisma of a desk lamp. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
