I just remembered something. He bought numerous ads for his protest in the local free tab Express throughout the month of February 2008. As they post the archives of all of their issues, I looked for one of his ads.
http://www.expressnightout.com/printedition/ One ad appeared on the day the protest was to start -- February 15, 2008. It appeared on page 8 of the tabloid. No matter what, he was wealthy enough to buy multiple full page ads in the Express (and later at the protest where he was arrested, to throw money at the crowd to get them to listen).
