With all the factors mentioned in the article, it looks to me like
they missed an obvious one - people don't need HBO to watch movies at
home any more. HBO themselves know that their value in the market is
original series, but of their entire subscriber base, some subscribe
for the exclusive TV shows, some for the sports, and some for the
movies. This is the point where those who stayed for the movies are
figuring out that they can drop HBO and get movies from Netflix and
Redbox or even iTunes and Amazon.
