There were a couple of those in my hometown back in the mid-80s when
the threat to the local video stores was Blockbuster and their free
memberships. It seems to be an efficient way to use one clerk to run
two businesses.

I'll confess that my movie rental has dropped to near zero since I've
only got X hours in a day and there's about ten times that in uncut HD
movies, commercial-free classic TV shows, and new cable and network
shows worth watching almost every day. I mean it's 2am as I type this
an Universal HD has "Six Feet Under", Encore HD has David Lynch's
"Dune", Disney HD has back-to-back "Phineas & Ferb" episodes, and
AMC's about to start a rerun of this week's "Rubicon". And that's just
bouncing around the HD channels at random. I can DVR enough movies
from Encore, TCM, and their ilk to fill the drive every week, even
without the premium channels. Why would I go out to Blockbuster or
even pay more for Netflix? I just don't have the hours in the day,
even if I made a career of it.
