I'm still looking into this TiVo thingamajig, so I found this new promotion interesting... http://bit.ly/9BTDhz instead of buying the hardware for $300, and then also buying a subscription for $13/month, you can pay just a monthly fee of $20, provided you commit to a two year contract (like a cell phone). At that link above (DigitalTrends.com), they do the math and figure it is cheaper than buying it and subscribing by the month. The downside though is that at the end of the contract, they'll continue you on $20/month (though presumably you can opt for a different subscription if you remember when it ends.) This looks to make the TiVo service more comparable to cable service, though I believe you get to own the box (and the box will be useful) at the end of the contract.
