My dissent here is that I did not even find the badass PI interesting - she
was trying WAY too hard to be bad, and an ass, and interesting, to be
anything other than tiresome and boring. The PI on The Good Wife has a
similar role, but much more understated, nuanced and - well - interesting.

There is nothing about this show's politics that I don't strongly endorse,
and nothing about it that was even remotely entertaining. Jimmy Smits
absolutely rules on Dexter two years ago - he was brilliant. Smits has
arguably had the most successful dramatic career of any actor in the history
of television (LA LAW, NYPD Blue, Dexter). He does not even begin to come
close to saving this stinker. On his worst day David Kelly could not write a
show this bad (and I agree with Kevin, that is really saying something).
This show was not written by Kelly, it was written by an earnest sophomore
at Oberlin.

I have a rather big tent when it comes to this season, at least in terms of
what I am making my TiVo watch for me (more slots available now that I don't
have to record 5 nights of Leno). In rough order of my anticipation: Lone
Star, Boardwalk Empire, The Event, Five-0, L&O: LA, The Undercovers (I
know), and The Whole Truth (I know). I will also probably record that show
about family superheroes, and the comedy about outsourcing. I already have
the unwatched episodes of Nikita and Terriers piling up, and some returning
shows which are about to start getting recorded again (welcome back Chuck!).
Even I do not have time to watch all of this TV, and my TiVo hard drive is
not big enough to deal with it. Natural selection, bloody in tooth and claw,
will soon have its way, and some of these shows will get auto deleted
without ever having been watched by human eyes in my home. The circle of
life.
