CBS-owned stations were under the gun to plug the "Hawaii 5-0" remake,
complete with anchors wearing leis, weather reporters giving the
forecast for Honolulu and, in Chicago at WBBM, even recently reunited
symbols of quality TV journalism Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson
sucked in (and Jacobson supposedly complained frequently at his last
station, Fox-owned WFLD, about the corporate-ordered "Idol" plugs on
station newscasts):

Of course, as the commenters point out, it's par for the course
nowadays at local news (even though Randy Michaels' minions at the
Tribune Co. like to say that the news audience and CW audience are
separate entities, I'm sure when given the chance this month they
trotted out Maggie Q and the cheerleaders of "Hellcats" on Trib
station newscasts). And there are those who'll say that Kurtis lost
his credibility about the time he started doing those A&E shows.
