The Segway does seem to have found some measure of success in fleet situations - touring businesses, police, postal workers (though I haven't seen mention of this as much as I used to).

Operator error is operator (sometimes fatal) error. And now a related, umm, segue: Many police departments use Segways very effectively for officers patrolling areas where cars wouldn't make sense, such as on tourist plazas and boardwalks, inside airports and other places where getting places without causing undue fatigue -- and giving the officer an elevated view of the crowd -- is important.
