Looks like Lee Abrams' sword-falling on Friday didn't do any good-- David Carr at the NY Times reports that the Tribune Co. board will demand that the former radio exec and controversy magnet resign as CEO of the troubled media giant (especially with Sam Zell, Michaels' longtime patron, out of the picture):
http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/19/tribune-board-said-ready-to-oust-chief-executive/ But don't expect the Trib to drop its one-size-fits-all national and world news section for all of its papers (or for that matter, the poppy/culturally/litey/britey changes made to the Trib a few years ago to make it seem more like its successful young demo tab in Chicago the RedEye), the test in Houston of Abrams' idea of an anchorless, natural sound-dominated newscast or WGN Radio in Chicago's recent changes that have made it less of an old school Good Neighbor full-service station and more of a typical right-wing talker (although I suspect that PD Kevin "Pig Virus" Metheny could be on his way out, along with the weekend personalities he brought in). One would hope that the syndicated talk show starring teabagger Bill "Big Willie" Cunningham from the radio station Michaels used to run in Cincy will be derailed. And I suspect that WGN America promos will start giving program times as "Eastern/Pacific" or "Eastern/Central" instead of "East/West" (an Abramsian affectation XM subscribers should remember-- some XMers still at Sirius XM continue to give times as "East/West" instead of "Eastern/Pacific"). -- TV or Not TV ....
