Bedroom machine: Scientific Atlanta 8300HDC, but has acquired the
Cisco-branded software. I do have to remember to reboot it every now
and then, or else I wind up with what I had last night: an unwatchable
"Amazing Race" that stuttered and froze throughout. Meanwhile, I
noticed last week that my season-pass recording of "Daily Show" and
"Colbert" ("Colbert" new and repeat at 11:30, start 30 minutes early
and end 2 minutes late to avoid overlap and runover) didn't pick up
tonight's shows. So I set it manually. Checking the menu on Saturday,
that manual setting had vanished, so I reset it. This morning, it's
gone again.

Living room machine: Cisco Explorer 8640HDC. Similar settings for
"Daily Show" and "Colbert," except instead of 11:30, it's the 2 a.m.
(and 1:30 a.m.) runs. But at least once each week, when I check the
Programmed Recordings menu, the machine has decided to record the
11/11:30 broadcasts. If I go into Series Manager and open and "Okay"
the recording options (2 a.m. only), the wandering shows return to
their proper times.

I would ask if anyone could explain these things, but I don't imagine
the answer is anything beyond "Time Warner's software sucks."
