I agree to a point. His whole act can't be "here's my NBC show and it will
really piss off the bastards in the suits if you laugh at it". Its not like
he did those bits every night anyway. But he does not want to have to
completely re-brand and re-invent himself. Dave took the features of his NBC
show that he felt were critical to his identity and brand, changed a few to
make NBC happy, did not change a few and figured (correctly) that NBC would
not make an issue of it. If Conan wants to call it the "self-pleasuring
Bear" or whatever (I don't mean that the bear is the most important defining
bit, just using that one thing as an example) then fine, but if he decides
that "masturbating bear" is his "Top Ten" list, and he is not going to
change the name, then I don't think NBC will really do anything to stop him.
