Just wanted to give John Slattery a shout out for his excellent work on "30 Rock." Slattery is probably best known for playing Roger Sterling on "Mad Men." Maybe not. He played a character for a season on "Desperate Housewives," which I don't watch. This last week on "30 Rock" he played a Tea Party kind of candidate backed by Jack because he's challenging a congresswoman who opposes the merger of NBC and Kabletown. There's nothing original about the character. He seems to be channeling Johnny Carson's Floyd R. Turbo. But after reading a book about Second City improv, I can say he totally commits to the character. He played it with such zest. And the lines were great. I'm guessing it will be a "30 Rock" entry for an Emmy. John Hamm showed his comedy chops on "30 Rock" and now Slattery does too. "Mad Men" creator Matt Weiner said he tried to get people with comedic backgrounds for "Mad Men." You wonder who else can do comedy on the show.
