Weigel Broadcasting's highly successful MeTV classic TV service, which is on two of the digital channels of their Chicago station WCIU, is set to go national next month to compete with RTN and the Tribune Co. and Sony's Antenna TV, which is set for a Jan. 1 launch:
http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/towerticker/2010/11/weigel-broadcasting-taking-me-tv-national.html Neil Saban, the savvy programmer who came up with MeTV as programming for a low-power sister station to WCIU, says that their difference is that they want to be the TCM of classic TV, with fewer commercials, as much shows in their original lengths as possible and the original, full-screen credits (a swipe at TVL, which has been going the shrunken credits route along with rerunning "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and putting on original reality shows [and, granted, "Hot in Cleveland'] as part of its stated mission of being a Boomer channel, not a classic TV channel). Meanwhile, count the classic TV references in this teaser release (PDF): http://metvnetwork.com/metv_teaser_release.pdf -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
