Although an independent study by a DC law firm stated that Ellen Weiss
did nothing illegal or unethical by firing Juan Williams over
statements made on his Fox News Channel moonlighting gigs, she has
resigned after almost 30 years with the net--the inquiry recommended
that NPR review its policies on outside activities to try to make them
clearer and consistent:

In addition, although the NPR board (made up of member stations) gave
a vote of confidence to CEO Vivian Schiller (who they've been fighting
over the net's new media initiatives and the decision to shorten the
"National Public Radio" name to the net's initials), they also
"expressed concern" over her role in the firing and took away her
bonus for this past year.
