I never did get what certain bloggers were getting so hot and bothered about the shirts for. They were distributed by the University, not the White House or the DNC or any partisan group. As CNN reported, the point of the shirts (and of the at first incongruous cheering) was that the Tucson community had been collectively in tears for 4 days, and effectively shell shocked and devastated, and used the memorial as an infusion of hope and energy. I have seen a similar dynamic in other situations (much lower profile of course). Out of town relatives come in for a funeral for some horrific local tragedy days after the event. The outsiders are looking for a somber, quiet reflection of their own grief, but the people who have been living it for days are looking for a way to transform their grief into something larger and meaningful. -- TV or Not TV ....
