I've always felt that Rivers' problem as a performer is her material. The documentary about her makes that clear. On the other hand, she is brilliant in an unscripted context. People always given the Paar Tonight Show as her breakout, but it was really her performance on Candid Camera that drew her to national attention (even to folks who didn't know her by name). I've never been fond of her on standup, but she is absolutely brilliant on the half-hour weekly version of "Fashion Police" that follows The Soup (and has been consistently funnier). I think her stint with Seocnd City put her in good stead. She listened to the victims on Candid Camera, and she listens to her panelists on Fashion Police, if only to craft a great comeback. Fashion Police is smoking right now. If you are a fan, as I am, of TV that puts a few people in chairs and have them interact (Ebert & Siskel and Pardon the Interruption are the others in my pantheon), Fashion Police. I have no interest in fashion but I wouldn't think of missing it, even though I've never been a particular fan of the hour FPs after big events like the Oscars, Grammys, etc.
