B.J. Novak and Paul Lieberstein I think are the other main examples, though I have read that all of the writers have a clause in their contracts that they might have to act on occasion. And I think the woman who plays Phylis was also originally working in the casting office, and got the on-screen role when they liked her while doing scenes with potential actors in auditions (I may be garbling that story, but it is something like that). Carell of course also does writing on the show. But Kaling is the real jewel in that crown (and she wrote one of the best episodes of the whole series). -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
