Thumbplay, the "cloud-based" unlimited-downloads-for $10-a-month service that is almost a year old, has been bought by Clear Channel (in the first notable move since MTV founder Bob Pittman returned to the entertainment biz to head media and entertainment for the Evil Empire) and will be folded into the company's existing IHeartRadio platform, which for now has been streaming the company's radio stations, the feeds of CC's Premium Choice service that are used by CC stations mostly on weekends and off hours, the feeds of HD subchannel services and a few specialty channels--Thumnplay's keeping their ringtone biz:
http://mashable.com/2011/03/01/clear-channel-thumbplay/ Interesting that Thumbplay's investors are not expecting their $40M investment back from selling to CC and that they have only 20,000 subscribers (and of course, Pittman's Really Big Idea is now 30 years old and nothing like his original concept). -- TV or Not TV ....
